OK, so you have Windows 3.1/ 3.11 installed on your PC....
You will need a program called Trumpet Winsock with Version 2.0
or later installed to connect to the internet from this operating
system. There is no built in Microsoft PPP dial up program.
- Firstly load Trumpet Winsock Up and press the Escape (Esc)
once.
- Click on File at the top of the window and then click on setup.
- On the setup screen you need to make sure the following are
setup :
IP Address is 0.0.0.0
Netmask is 255.255.255.0
Name Server is [Insert DNS IP]
Default Gateway is 0.0.0.0
Domain Suffix is topthis.com.au
Internal PPP is ticked
Internal SLIP is NOT ticked.
Hardware Handshake is Ticked
CSLIP Compression is NOT ticked.
Baud Rate is 38400
Everything else should be left as its default setting..... Click
OK
- Now click on File at the top of the window and click PPP Options.
Tick use PAP Authentication and enter your username and password.
- Click on Dialler and then Options in the menu at the top of
the window. You should select automatical login and logout on
demand, you should have the SLIP Timeout set to 0 and have Use
standard SLIP settings ticked.
- Now click on Dialler and select setup.cmd. A window will appear
asking for your username. Enter it again and click Ok. It will
then ask for your password. Also enter this again and click OK.
- Leave enter a dialing prefix blank unless you have to dial
a 0 or 1 to get an outside line. Then click OK.
- Now enter you access
number for your local area and press OK.
- It will now ask for a modem init string. Just leave the default
one there and click OK. If you have problems with this then come
back later and change it to AT&F&C1&D2 (but write
down the original one first). Click Ok to continue.
- Leave the diagnostic info off with 0 and click OK.
- Just Click Ok thru the rest leaving the defaults, since we
don't use scripting. Now just minimise Trumpet and start your
browser. When trumpet see's your browser trying to access the
internet, it will automatically dial and connect you !!
